This wasn’t just a race. It was a masterfully orchestrated corporate event that blended adventure, teamwork, and a splash of local culture. Let’s take you behind the scenes of the Marvell Amazing Race, powered by GetOut.Events.

The Brief — What Marvell Technology Needed

Marvell Technology, a global semiconductor leader, approached GO Events with a clear goal: organise a large-scale team building event in Singapore that would bring together colleagues from different departments and foster genuine connections outside the office.

The brief had several key requirements:

  • High energy and engagement — the event needed to feel exciting, not like another corporate obligation
  • Cultural immersion — Marvell wanted their international team members to experience the best of Singapore
  • Inclusive challenges — activities had to cater to varied fitness levels and skill sets, with a mix of physical, mental, and creative tasks
  • Scalability — with approximately 120 participants, the event needed smooth logistics across multiple outdoor locations

The Amazing Race Singapore format was the perfect answer — competitive, collaborative, and endlessly customisable.

Why the Amazing Race Format Works for Corporate Team Building Events in Singapore

The Amazing Race Singapore concept remains one of the most effective formats for corporate team building. Why? It’s fun, fast-paced, and fosters deep engagement. Teams are challenged to communicate, strategise, and navigate real-time problem-solving—all in a highly energetic environment. And with Singapore’s diverse and vibrant landscape, there’s no better playground for a race like this.

The Marvell team experienced exactly that: bonding through challenges that were both cerebral and physical, all while exploring the best parts of the city. For teams that prefer a controlled indoor environment, we also offer indoor team building programmes that deliver the same level of energy and engagement.

Execution Highlights — Route 1: Sports Hub & Kallang Icons

We kicked off the race at the OCBC Arena, where teams put their memory and creativity to the test by drawing the iconic Singapore skyline—from memory! The fastest and most accurate team earned the privilege to launch the race ahead of the rest. It was a great warm-up that set the tone for the entire day.

100PLUS Promenade — Sprint & Relay Trivia

Next, the teams sprinted to the 100PLUS Promenade, a fully sheltered civic space around the National Stadium. Here, participants engaged in a “Sprint & Relay Trivia” challenge—a hybrid of physical relay and rapid-fire trivia, ensuring everyone had to think on their feet (literally).

Kallang Wave Mall — The Kallang Wave Challenge

At Kallang Wave Mall, creativity stole the spotlight. Teams choreographed skits featuring the iconic “Kallang Wave” or came up with their own cheers, performed to a soundtrack of their choice. The mall buzzed with cheers, music, and laughter, creating unforgettable moments for every participant.

Stadium Riverside Walk — Photography Challenge

Down by the Stadium Riverside Walk, teams were tested on their photography skills. Using only their phone cameras, they were challenged to capture the clearest possible photo of a distant fountain across the Kallang Basin—a great test of both visual acuity and phone tech savvy.

Old Kallang Airport — Airplane Toss

Meanwhile, at the Old Kallang Airport, participants took part in a nostalgic “Airplane Toss” challenge. Teams crafted their own paper planes, with points awarded for both design and distance. This station brought out the inner child in everyone—and plenty of friendly competition!

Execution Highlights — Route 2: Kampong Glam Culture Hunt

The second part of the Marvell Amazing Race shifted gears, as teams headed into the vibrant streets of Kampong Glam. A stark contrast from the modernity of the Sports Hub, this segment was rich in culture, history, and local flavour.

Gedung Kuning — History Trivia

At the historic Gedung Kuning, also known as the Yellow Mansion, teams faced off in a history trivia challenge that revealed lesser-known facts about Singapore’s royal heritage. The beautiful colonial architecture offered a regal backdrop for this brainy station.

Vintage Camera Museum — Mural Hunt

Nearby, the Vintage Camera Museum became a visual checkpoint. Teams snapped group photos with quirky poses as they hunted for murals and iconic street art scattered around the neighbourhood.

Tarboush Restaurant — Food Hunt

And then came the Tarboush Restaurant Food Hunt. Here, participants had to search for and identify ingredients used in making authentic Baklava. The challenge was both delicious and educational, ending with sweet rewards for the winners.

Challenges & How We Overcame Them

Organising an outdoor Amazing Race for over 120 participants across multiple Singapore neighbourhoods comes with its share of logistical hurdles. Here’s how we tackled the key challenges:

Managing Large Groups Across Public Spaces

With teams scattered across Sports Hub, Kampong Glam, and surrounding areas simultaneously, coordination was essential. We deployed experienced facilitators at every checkpoint, equipped with live communication tools to monitor team progress and manage timing. Staggered start times ensured no single location was overcrowded.

Weather Contingency Planning

Singapore’s tropical weather can be unpredictable. We prepared backup indoor alternatives for key stations and built sheltered rest points into each route. The event day cooperated with sunny skies, but having a robust contingency plan gave both our team and the client peace of mind.

Inclusive Challenge Design

With participants of varying fitness levels and backgrounds, we ensured every challenge could be approached through different strengths—whether physical speed, creative thinking, cultural knowledge, or teamwork. No one was left on the sidelines, and every team member had a chance to contribute meaningfully.

The Outcome

The Marvell Amazing Race was a resounding success. Here’s what made it stand out:

  • 120+ participants actively engaged across two dynamic routes spanning Singapore’s Sports Hub and Kampong Glam
  • 100% participation rate — every team completed the full race, with no drop-offs
  • Stronger cross-departmental bonds — teams were intentionally mixed, helping colleagues from different departments connect for the first time
  • Cultural discovery — international team members gained a deeper appreciation for Singapore’s heritage through hands-on exploration
  • Overwhelmingly positive feedback — participants highlighted the variety of challenges and the seamless organisation as key highlights

At its core, the Marvell Amazing Race wasn’t just about winning. It was about creating shared memories and moments of genuine connection. As a corporate event planner in Singapore, our mission is to design team building activities that are meaningful and memorable. This event checked all the boxes:

  • Teamwork & Communication: Every activity was built to ensure teams had to rely on collaboration and clear communication to succeed.
  • Cultural Exploration: By incorporating locations like Kampong Glam and local trivia, we offered more than just entertainment—we provided insight into Singapore’s heritage.
  • Physical & Mental Challenges: From trivia and sprinting to photography and food discovery, the variety of activities kept every participant engaged.
  • Creativity & Fun: From cheer performances to airplane design, there was no shortage of creative expression.
