On 6 September 2025, close to 1,500 participants gathered at One Marina Boulevard for the NTUC SG60 Solidarity Walk — an event that marked Singapore’s 60th year of independence and the enduring strength of the Labour Movement. GO Events was proud to serve as the appointed corporate event organiser, bringing together union leaders, members, and families for a morning that blended unity, heritage, and celebration on a national scale.

This was not a standard corporate event. The SG60 Solidarity Walk was a milestone occasion with national significance — a large-scale community event that required meticulous planning, robust logistics, and a deep understanding of what it means to organise events that move people both physically and emotionally.

The Brief — What NTUC Needed

NTUC came to GO Events with an ambitious vision: to organise a mass participation walk that would bring together approximately 1,500 union members, leaders, and their families to celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday. The event needed to achieve several objectives simultaneously:

Celebrate SG60 with meaning: This was more than a walk — it was a symbolic journey through Singapore’s history and achievements. The route, activities, and messaging all needed to reflect the significance of the milestone.

Manage large-scale logistics safely: With close to 1,500 participants walking a 5km route through urban Singapore, safety, crowd management, and real-time coordination were paramount. The event required careful route planning, traffic management coordination, and on-ground crew deployment across multiple checkpoints.

Create a festival atmosphere: Beyond the walk itself, NTUC wanted the start and end point to serve as a vibrant activity hub — complete with stage entertainment, fringe activities, refreshments, and engagement opportunities that would keep participants energised and connected.

Deliver a seamless participant experience: From registration and wristband distribution to goodie bag collection and photo opportunities, every participant touchpoint needed to feel organised, welcoming, and efficient.

Our Approach — Designing a National Milestone Event

Our approach to the SG60 Solidarity Walk centred on three pillars: operational excellence, meaningful storytelling, and participant engagement. From the earliest planning stages, we worked closely with the NTUC team to align on the event’s purpose, messaging, and logistics framework.

The 5km looped route was designed with Singapore’s most iconic landmarks in mind, giving participants a chance to walk through the city’s history while looking forward to its future. Every checkpoint along the route was planned for both safety and storytelling — with visual markers, hydration stations, and marshals ensuring a smooth experience from start to finish.

At the event village at One Marina Boulevard, we designed an integrated experience that combined stage entertainment, fringe activities, and participant services into a cohesive space. The layout was optimised for crowd flow, ensuring that even with 1,500 people cycling through registration, the walk, and post-walk activities, there were no bottlenecks or confusion.

Project management was a critical success factor. With multiple stakeholders — including NTUC leadership, government liaisons, venue management, and vendor partners — clear communication and disciplined tracking were essential. Our team used structured project management tools to maintain visibility across all workstreams, with regular status updates and real-time adjustments as the event date approached.

Execution Highlights

Registration and Participant Management

Managing registration for close to 1,500 participants required a system that was both efficient and resilient. We implemented a wristband tracking system that served multiple purposes: it confirmed participant registration, provided a visual identifier for event marshals along the route, and enabled accurate headcounts at key checkpoints.

The registration area at One Marina Boulevard was designed for high throughput without sacrificing the participant experience. Multiple registration lanes, clear signage, and trained volunteers ensured that even during peak arrival times, the queue moved smoothly. Each participant received their wristband, event programme, and goodie bag in a single, streamlined interaction.

The 5km Solidarity Route

The heart of the event was the 5km looped walking route, carefully designed to take participants past some of Singapore’s most recognisable landmarks. The route was planned for accessibility — suitable for families with children, seniors, and participants of all fitness levels — while still offering enough distance to feel meaningful and celebratory.

Along the route, marshals were stationed at regular intervals to ensure safety, provide directions, and offer encouragement. Hydration points were strategically placed to keep participants comfortable throughout the walk. The route design also incorporated natural photo opportunities at scenic points, encouraging participants to capture and share their SG60 experience on social media.

Stage Programme and Entertainment

The start and end point at One Marina Boulevard was transformed into a dynamic event village, anchored by a stage platform with a large LED wall. The stage programme featured a mix of addresses from NTUC leadership, live entertainment, and interactive segments that kept the energy high throughout the morning.

The LED wall served as a central communication hub, displaying the event programme, SG60 messaging, live participant counts, and celebratory visuals. It also provided a professional backdrop for VIP addresses and the official flag-off ceremony that launched the walk.

Fringe Activities and Mascot Appearances

To complement the walk, we curated a range of fringe activities at the event village that catered to participants of all ages. These included interactive game booths, heritage-themed activity stations, and family-friendly entertainment zones. Mascot appearances added a festive, approachable energy to the event, delighting younger participants and creating popular photo opportunities.

The fringe activities were designed to extend the event experience beyond the walk itself — giving participants reasons to stay, explore, and connect with fellow attendees after completing their 5km journey.

Goodie Bags and Merchandise Fulfilment

Every participant received a commemorative goodie bag as part of their SG60 Solidarity Walk experience. The fulfilment process — from procurement and packing to distribution — was managed end-to-end by our logistics team. With close to 1,500 bags to prepare and distribute, precision in packing and a well-organised collection point were essential to avoid delays or errors on event day.

Challenges and How We Overcame Them

Coordinating a 5km urban route with multiple stakeholders: Planning a walking route through Singapore’s CBD required coordination with venue management, local authorities, and traffic management teams. Our operations team conducted multiple route recces, developed contingency plans for weather and crowd management, and maintained constant communication with all stakeholders to ensure a safe, disruption-free experience for participants and the public.

Scaling registration for 1,500 participants: Mass registration events are only as good as their queue management. We stress-tested our registration system in advance, trained volunteers on the wristband distribution process, and designed the registration layout to accommodate peak arrival surges — particularly in the 30 minutes before the flag-off. The result was consistently short wait times even during the busiest periods.

Weather contingency for an outdoor event: An outdoor event in Singapore always carries weather risk. We developed a comprehensive wet weather plan that included covered rest areas along the route, a revised programme flow for the stage area, and rapid-deployment shelters at the event village. While the weather cooperated on event day, our preparation ensured we were ready for any scenario.

The Outcome

The NTUC SG60 Solidarity Walk was a resounding success, with close to 1,500 participants completing the 5km route and engaging with the full event experience. The event achieved its core objectives:

National milestone celebrated: The walk served as a powerful, visible demonstration of solidarity and national pride, with participants from across Singapore’s Labour Movement coming together to mark SG60.

Seamless large-scale execution: Despite the complexity of managing 1,500 participants across a 5km urban route, the event ran smoothly from registration through to the closing programme — with no safety incidents and no significant delays.

Positive stakeholder feedback: NTUC leadership praised the event’s organisation, noting the professional handling of logistics, the engaging programme, and the meaningful integration of SG60 themes throughout the participant experience.
